It's coming this July! My next public mixed media project will be at the ever exciting Canadian
Stone Carving Festival, taking place this year over the July 21st weekend. I've taken part in this
festival since its beginning year in Winchester, ON.
Carving in stone is not my usual medium, but I love the spirit of this festival, and the very worthy
causes it has supported over the years.
What happens? Well, all of the participants are given a piece of limestone, and the weekend to
complete a sculpture using hand tools only. On Sunday afternoon the sculptures are auctioned
off. All proceeds from the auction go this year to the Innercity Ministries, to benefit street youths.
My piece always involves mixed media by adding another medium to my stone sculpture, whether
that be rubber, wood, rhinestones, or something else altogether. The bits I add to the stone to
make it mixed media are always dictated by the piece itself, definitely not random. Come on out
and see the fun for yourself! As a bonus, there will be a block of stone and a few tools so that
visitors can try out what it's like to carve stone!
We'll be under the big tent canopy on Sparks Street, Ottawa. See you there!
I have been exhibiting my mixed media art since 2007. My artworks have been shown at various
locations in Ottawa and the surrounding area, including the Britannia Art Gallery, the Museum of
Nature, the Shenkman Arts Centre and the Mississippi Textile Museum. I have also created mixed
media art to aid various charitable causes in the Ottawa area. I am a member of the National Capital
Network of Sculptors and Out Of The Box Fibre Artists.
